Compliments & Connections

Yesterday I stopped in the market to grab a bouquet of flowers. The woman ahead of me in the checkout line had the same idea. After I told her she had FABULOUS legs (because she did, and I feel like we women don’t compliment one another nearly enough), she asked what my flowers were for.

“My baby is graduating from pre-school today,” I replied. “Yours?”

“My oldest is graduating from college,” she said.

We welled up with tears and collapsed into a big sad/happy/sappy hug. “It goes by so quickly,” we said, practically at the same moment.

Moral of the story: Hug a stranger. Make a genuine connection. You have more in common with the people around you than you might think.

Oh, and never miss a chance to make someone’s day with a compliment. <3
